It’s not going to win any Game of the Year awards, but if you’re looking for a fun co-op game that scratches a similar itch to something like PayDay, Rico is well worth picking up.

RICO is simple, moreish fun in arcade FPS form; a literal corridor shooter that makes every gunfight a glorious exchange of bullets as you fight your way to the words ‘Room cleared’ over and over again. It’s great fun in single-player, but when you head into each randomised set of rooms in co-op, you’ll shoot your way into an interactive buddy cop movie right there in the palm of your hands. Loading times and the occasional bit of pop-in aside, this is another fine addition to the console’s growing list of first-person shooters.

A fiendishly compelling re-imagining of the gun-toting cop shows of yore, RICO is an effortlessly playable, highly enjoyable and deceptively clever roguelike FPS that is at it's very best when enjoyed with friends.

I like the graphics, what with the cel shading and the environments look nice. Unfortunately, after several hours with the game, I think I’ve seen every asset RICO is capable of showing me.

RICO is meant meant to be played in quick bursts of ridiculous action. Spend too long with the game and infinite loop of smashing doors and clearing rooms becomes rather tiresome, but that's fine, not every game has to be an epic that requires you to bring a packed lunch. It may not be the best looking title, and it does have a few technical hiccups, but for a quick hit of over the top action it works really well, even more so if you have a friend to join in.

RICO represents a charming shooter, best played in co-op with friends. You and your buddy cop have the mission to kill all the criminals in 24 hours on randomly generated maps.

RICO offers a very enjoyable, stress-relieving experience where players can live the adrenaline rush of busting down doors to take out drug cartel members. If you can get over the fact that at any second your death means you lose all your progress, there is much to enjoy, with every playthrough unique due to procedural generation. Grab your shotgun and let’s go.

A huge turnoff for me is that there is much more ammo lying around than health and it's quite easy to be gunned down playing solo; not helped at all but the games's "save" system - which doesn't seem to be present. I completed a case and moved on to the next one, only to be gunned down and having to start completely over every single time. There needs to be a checkpoint system and a way to save in between cases. The graphics are so-so, but they honestly don't need that much spit and polish for this style of game, so I had tempered expectations going in. A drawback to the graphics is that it is difficult or nigh impossible to see an enemy clear across a well-lit room.Overall, fun game with very frustrating difficulty curve.

It is the same gameplay loop over and over, but it is framed like a rogue-like. A decent game for the short term, but doesn't run as well as it should (I think the PC version runs at 60).

A cooperative shooter with large doses of cooperative frantic action is Rico's initial proposal that, as we can see when playing the title, does not make it stand out in the eShop. More innovation would have been a positive point for the game.

Additionally, the timed challenges like bomb defusing create frantic situations where you find yourself frantically trying to find the bombs in the low render distance.I would gladly sacrifice the semi-destructible environments for increased render distance. If it weren't for these problems I would easily recommend this game.

Having "unlimited replay value" means nothing when it results in such a grind, and I can't help but think that Rico would have been so much better if it was over and done in a couple of hours, but that bombastic action really had a chance to fly thanks to carefully designed levels arranged to help boost that experience.

I would give this a better review if there was more to offer, then just kicking down the same doors over and over and over and shooting the same bad bikers over and over. really if you like games where you do the same thing for hours on end, Then play this game to the end of time. and I know how its CO OP but really I just wanted to play this by myself and relax, instead I fell asleep and wasted 2 hours looking at the menu screen.
