With that out of the way I will commence my actual game review.Introduction and aesthetic:Evil Dead: The Game is a love letter to it's source material and well incorperates all 3 films within its masterfully constructed aesthetic. The sound design of the game is phenominal and truly took me by surprise, and while I know not all gamers care much about this, it adds a great deal of immersion.Survivor Gameplay:Saber entertainment continue with their prolific proficiency in third person horde combat gameplay however in this iteration there is a fair bit of survival-horror spin. As a long time fan of both saber interactive's 'World War Z' and capcom's 'Resident Evil', it was truly fascinating to see this genre hybridity in full swing.Demon Gameplay:Playing the kandarian demon is an incredible reverse-horror experience. Despite being largely ethereal throughout the game, the disconnected feeling is effectively mitigated by the interaction still retained with the environment, making you feel more so like a powerful demonic prescence than a ghost. There is a great range of gameplay styles to explore and master within this game and I can definitely see a very high skill ceiling forming in the future with the potential for a competitive scene. It gives a truly powerful feeling yet greatly different to the experiences of its predecessors of 'Friday the 13th' and DBD, due to the horde control elements.Combat:The combat mechanics are truly astounding for what this game is and there is a far larger prevalence on melee combat than I had expected due to the very welcome scarcity of ammo. Bladed combat has just the right amount of realism and hack-and-slash while bludgeoning weapons have a perfect amount of 'oomph' to them.Progression:Progression throughout the game adds an effective sense of accomplishment, and even after it has all been achieved, replayablity is still fun just as it was in DBD.Limitations:Currently there are only 2 maps and there is an encompassing fear of repetitiveness however my review remains a 9 due to saber already developing free and paid DLCs to add more content. If this game is the success it deserves to be, I can see them supporting it for years to come.

If you’re a fan of Evil Dead, this game is meant for you. It’s easy to see that the developers are fans of the series as well. Even if you’re not a fan, this game is still a lot of fun. It is one the most balanced asymmetrical game that has released yet. There were a few problems with melee canceling when the game first released, but that exploit has already been addressed in one of the recent patches, so it goes to show that the developers care about balance. The game also has cross-play! If the game can maintain some good download content in the future, this game will be one to talk about and play for the months to come. Just from the start, this game already has “JOIN US” wrote all over it... and if you get that reference, you will enjoy this game the most!

There are some glitches and it definitely needs a patch. Ive had characters get stuck or can't attack. 3 times out of around 50 game. And this has been in jus the first 4 days of its release. I looking forward to the content that the season pass will bring. Were getting a free map, Kandar Castle soon. So there is alot more to look forward to. As for the gameplay, its a 4v1 asymmetrical game. The 4 survivors have to look for fragments of the map, then find the dagger/book and demons in a king of the hill style match. While the demon player, is trying to kill them by placing traps, monsters and bosses. The survivors have access to unique ability's, Swords/shovel's/knifes and chainsaws. and Guns like Shotguns/rifles/pistols and magnums. Both survivors and demons have Talent trees you can level both in a match, and out of a match, to add in a unique playstyle even if you see the same character twice they could be very different. Overall its a fun game, and I can't wait to see what more its gonna get!

Playing as a survivor is a fantastic cooperative shooter experience despite frequent problems with janky level geometry that leads to unfair deaths and other questionable design choices, while playing as the evil mastermind is just downright magnificent thanks to the amusingly fiendish ways you can mess with the other team. The single-player story missions are a distressing mess that I could have done without being forced to play through for unlocks, but everything else proves worthy of the classic cheesy movies that inspired it.

Evil Dead: The Game is a homage to 80s horror and Sam Raimi. It captures the franchise perfectly and you'll grimace and chuckle as the action unfolds. It is excellent as a multiplayer experience. However, solo gamers will find it unfairly harsh and this will frustrate you.

As it stands at launch, however, Evil Dead only reaches beyond something pretty good when it's played with a close-knit group of Evil Dead fans. General horror or co-op enthusiasts may get some mileage out of it, but Ash and his boomstick are storming into a crowded field of competitors and can't quite overcome the horde of similar games already available.
