The new Specialist system might seem like sacrilege at first, but it opens up gameplay opportunities that weren’t possible in previous titles. The massive, well-designed maps offer plenty of room for experimentation and emergent stories, and the modes are a blast. And that’s just All-Out Warfare. Between that, Hazard Zone, and the expansive Battlefield Portal, Battlefield 2042 has something for everyone, without feeling like it’s stretched too thin. It’s a true evolution of the series, one that pushes back against a stagnation that threatened the series’ future. It won’t be for everyone, but for players who crave imagination and fun from their Battlefields, it will give them everything that they crave and more.

Xbox series x users have been hard done by. You’re unable to disable cross-play in the game ( like you could in the beta), which doing it viaXbox series x users have been hard done by. No Score board, hit registry is terrible, no xp at the end of the game and that’s if you’re able to get a game without it crashing and the worst part of all, no server select option. Unlike the predecessors this one however still would be the worst entry in the franchise had it launched perfectly finished and without bugs since this Battlefield is nothing but a soulless regression in nearly every way representing only a former shell of the franchise. This so called "love letter to Battlefield fans" comes with, in no particular order:- the worst gunplay of any bf yet- the worst graphics and visuals for its time yet- the worst audio design and mixing yet- least amount of actual content -> only 7 maps and 22 guns (hazard zone will be nothing but a meme in 2 weeks time and portal is a cheap last ditch effort to save this absolute disaster of a base game)- worst map design yet- worst weapon and vehicle balance yet- worst UI yet- worst performance yet- worst settings customization yet- most unfinished, bugged out and featureless BF yet- ... and the list could keep going on without end, just see some more comprehensive ones on the games subreddit.In conclusion this battlefield might be the first one that cant be saved by DICEs usual patch fixing frenzy in the first year after the launch. And even if DICE outdo themselves once again, the underlying game design choices are so out of touch with the core community, that nothing but a complete redesign of pretty much the whole game could save this franchise damaging kick in the teeth of battlefield fans. Unlike entries that launched rough before, like BF4 or BFV, where most die hard fans could at least see a genuinely good and fun game at the end of the dark, bug riddled tunnel, this one is the first Battlefield that is just categorially unfun, which hurts even the most die hard fans of this franchise.

Bear in mind this game is new and is early access. Every game launches with questionable bugs, glitches, exploits you get the point. I don't understand what people are basing their disappointment on. Okay there isn't enough gamemodes. I agree, the basic game will get truly repetitive after a long time, agreed. Hazard Zone is a good concept executed badly, could possibly be redeemed but they need to focus on redemption at this moment in time. They need to look at the bad reviews and see what people are consistently complaining about as if you fix/add things people are complaining about to the point where you have covered everything there won't be anything further to complain about.My personal opinion on the game is I think its a step down the right path. But the next couple months are crucial to the games success. Its enjoyable, yes but I can see the content lacking very soon. The biggest and boldest Battlefield to date, 2042 combines trademark action with impressive innovations. Experimentation with loadout and attachment changes drive the enormous spectacle of 128 player warzones and dynamic weather events. Hazard Zone provides the grounds for extremely tactical gameplay but needs refinement to make it a lasting experience. The shining star without question is Portal, allowing series veterans to jump back into their favourite legacy maps and muck around with creative modes and features – it's basically four games in one package. If it wasn't for a few poorly designed 2042 maps, combat balancing issues, and performance concerns, Battlefield 2042 might be the best in the franchise.

They also managed to include all maps and the fact that the browser for games hosted is fantastic. I love that we have variety available to us and they’re supported going forward. I can always jump into a game played on a bad company map or battlefield 4. It’s all here. The shooting mechanics so far I have found no issues with. And overall, it’s fun.

There’s enough promise with the satisfying-when-it-works gunplay, large-scale chaos (that’s starting to feel more controlled over time), and fantastic legacy Battlefield content in Portal that I’ll stick around for a bit. There is fleeting fun to be had here, but it's often spoiled by the game's blatant shortcomings. The maps are a slog, gunplay is bogged down by puzzling design choices, and there's no shortage of bugs that actively require the player to restart the entire game. It's a far cry from the 10-year-old Battlefield 3 and as it continues to age, the series strays further away from those glory days with no road to redemption in sight.

If you’re looking to enjoy the next Battlefield title, turn back now. With the next patch not slated to arrive for another month, and the next content update to release some time after that, it’s going to be a while before 2042 can earn the right to be called a true Battlefield game. It’s best to wait until the smoke clears and DICE fixes any major bugs (maybe even wait for it to go on discount) before spending $70 on this game.

It’s hard not to be disappointed with this 2042 offering. You know when the devs said this is a game to “celebrate Battlefield”? They’ve stripped away some of the most fundamental elements of the series and added tornados and Wingsuits to make up for it. It’s Marketing 101. Explosions, tornados, and swooping helicopters look great. One day, they probably will be great. DICE is one of the best when it comes to post-launch patches - for better and for worse. But if you’re on the fence about buying Battlefield 2042, I would just wait. It’s hard for me to condone purchasing what is essentially an unfinished product - an unfinished product with Battle Passes, too. Just wait. It will be a better game in a year’s time. Maybe even six months. If you’ve never played Battlefield and want to experience some of the sheer beauty of 64v64, I say go for it. Just don’t expect an experience that will keep you interested for more than a couple of weeks.
